Instagram is the fastest growing social network growing to over 80 million users. It’s taken a while, but marketers are finally getting on board with this social app. A recent study from SimplyMeasured of the growing trend shows that of the top 199 brands, 40% are on Instagram. Of those top 100 brands, only 26% post more than one picture on Instagram a week. Compared to other social networks that have vast amounts of followers, only 8% of major brands have over 100,000 followers. Only 1/3 of Instagrams photos are shared in Twitter and Facebook. The amount of photos shared on Instagram has reached close to 4 billion in only 2 years of existence.
Looking at companies that have seen success from Instagram, they are not using it to announce promotions and deals. Successful brands are simply using Instagram to make their brand look as visually appealing as possible. The most successful brands are posting visually appealing well picked pictures along with strategically used hash tags. Brands who aren’t engaging in Instagrams 80 million users are looked at as being at a disadvantage.
